Stepping On is designed specifically for people who are: 1) at risk of falling, 2) have a fear of falling, or 3) who have fallen one or more times. Participants meet for two hours a week for seven weeks. Classes are facilitated by trained Leaders and provide a safe and positive learning experience. Classes are highly participative; mutual support and success build participants' confidence in their ability to manage their health behaviors, reduce their risk of falls, and maintain active and fulfilling lives.

An Information Session will be held during the Resident Meeting on Monday, February 19, 2024, in the 1st floor Fireplace Room.

This Matter of Balance class is offered in-person at Parker Skyview. Unfortunately, only residents of Parker Skyview are able to attend this class. If you are a resident of Parker Skyview and are interested in participating in this class, please email mwolney@esns.org or call 612-787-4086.

Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program (AFEP) is a group exercise class for people with arthritis who want safe ways to stay active, reduce pain, and move more easily. Participants learn from a trained instructor on how to deal with challenges like pain that keep them from staying active. Participants will practice stretching, breathing, endurance, and balance activities tailored for their ability and skill level. AFEP can help control pain, boost energy and mood, and increase confidence about staying active and managing arthritis.

This is an ongoing class. No need to wait until next session to join. You will need to call the leader to have your name added to the roster after official registration is closed.

Performing exercises that improve strength, balance and fitness is the single most important activity adults can do to stay active and reduce their chances of falling. The entire curriculum of activities in the Stay Active and Independent for Life (SAIL) program can help improve strength and balance, if done regularly.

Stay Active & Independent for Life (SAIL) is a strength, balance and fitness program. This class is designed to reduce the risk of falling by teaching participants how to perform exercises that improve strength, balance and fitness. An introduction session will be offered for participants who are new to SAIL or new to ZOOM. Come join instructor, Gail Johnson, for a fun class with purpose.

The Diabetes Prevention Program is for people who want to avoid type 2 diabetes. It uses a curriculum developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and cuts your risk of developing type 2 diabetes in half. The program helps you make lasting changes, such as eating healthier, adding physical activity into your daily routine, and reducing stress.

Registrants MUST attend the virtual Information Session scheduled for Wednesday, 4/24/24 at 1:30-2:30 pm. The virtual session will occur on the same link as the regular class sessions. During the informational session, you will meet your coach, community health worker and administrator of the classes, as well as the other participants in your class. The Diabetes Prevention Program is for people who want to avoid type 2 diabetes. This class is only open to participants in Northern St. Louis County. The cities in this area include: • Virginia • Hibbing • Aurora • Mountain Iron • Gilbert • Eveleth • Ely • Biwabik • Babbitt • Tower • Hoyt Lakes • Cook • Chisholm You must have a laptop, desktop, iPad, tablet or smart phone to participate in the class. You will also need to have a scale at home to weigh yourself weekly. Once you are registered you will receive a welcome email, curriculum and Zoom invite to attend your meetings. The final 8 classes are subject to date change but will be discussed with your coach one class begins.
