Stepping On is an evidence-based falls prevention intervention appropriate for community-dwelling older adults who have experienced falls, report fear of falling, or demonstrate elevated fall risk. The program uses a psychoeducational model that encourages participants to identify and implement their own solutions to fall-related challenges.
The original randomized controlled trial demonstrated a 31% reduction in falls among participating older adults. Benefits appear strongest among older adults and individuals with elevated fall risk.
Recommend Stepping On for older adults with a history of falls, concerns about falling, or activity limitations related to fall risk. The program is particularly well suited for individuals who can actively participate in discussion, problem solving, and goal setting while learning practical strategies to reduce fall risk.
