Tai Ji Quan: Moving for Better Balance (TJQMBB) is an evidence-based fall prevention program designed for older adults developed by Fuzhong Li, Ph.D., Senior Scientist at the Oregon Research Institute. TJQMBB represents a substantive enhancement of traditional Tai Ji Quan as it transforms martial arts movements into a therapeutic regimen aimed at improving postural stability, awareness and mindful control of body positioning, functional walking, movement symmetry and coordination, range of motion around the ankle and hip joints and lower - extremity muscle strength.

This program includes 24 sessions. Please note we will NOT meet the following dates: June 25 June 27 July 2 July 4 Aug 1 Aug 6 Each session builds upon what is learned in the previous session. Please consider this class if you can make most or all of the sessions. It is ok to miss a session here or there, but if you anticipate being absent for a lot of the sessions, please talk to Bella or Shonette prior to registering. Thank you.

The Diabetes Prevention Program is for people who want to avoid type 2 diabetes. It uses a curriculum developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and cuts your risk of developing type 2 diabetes in half. The program helps you make lasting changes, such as eating healthier, adding physical activity into your daily routine, and reducing stress.

Informational Session will be held Wednesday, May 15th from 9:15-10:15 a.m. at the Downtown Duluth Area Family YMCA (302 W 1st St.)

Chronic Pain Self-Management is a group class designed to help participants live a healthy life with chronic pain by managing their symptoms. This program teaches new strategies that will give participants the confidence, motivation, and skills needed to manage living with chronic pain. Classes are highly participative, where mutual support and success build the participants' confidence in their ability to manage their health and maintain active and fulfilling lives.

*PLEASE READ BEFORE REGISTERING FOR THIS CLASS* This is a virtual workshop. Basic knowledge of computer skills is STRONGLY recommended. All participants will need a device with a camera and speaker capabilities to participate in this class. You will need Zoom downloaded on the device you wish to use prior to the start of class. WE STRONGLY ADVISE NOT USEING A PHONE FOR THIS WORKSHOP. A tablet, laptop, or PC is the best choice. Virtual classes come with a hard copy paperback book, being sent via US mail once ElderCircle receives all required registration paperwork. Please complete the pre-class survey, and agree to the insurance, liability and privacy policy forms at the time of registration. These MUST be completed before we allow access to the virtual class. A $5.00 donation is suggested (classes are valued at $170.00 per person, and we are able to offer them to you at no charge) participants will not be denied if they do not make a donation. The Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) classes are typically covered by insurance and are provided at no cost. However, individuals lacking insurance coverage are required to pay a nominal fee of $50 to cover material expenses. It is important to note that some insurance plans may not include coverage for DPP classes. Our team is dedicated to aiding participants in navigating their insurance coverage and comprehending the benefits associated with these classes. An in-person information session is scheduled for Wednesday, May 15th, 2024, at 5:00 pm at the Maplewood YMCA Community Center, Room A. Additionally, online sessions will be conducted on the second Tuesday of every month at 5:00 pm.
