Stay Active and Independent for Life (SAIL) is a strength, balance and fitness program for adults 65 and older. Performing exercises that improve strength, balance and fitness is the single most important activity adults can do to stay active and reduce their chances of falling. The entire curriculum of activities in the Stay Active and Independent for Life (SAIL) program can help improve strength and balance, if done regularly.

You must have access to Zoom on your computer, I-pad, tablet or smart phone to participate in this class. Not familiar with Zoom, that's ok! We will have a training meeting, Session 0, to show you how to log in and use Zoom for your class. This will take place on Wednesday November 30th at 9:00 am. A private Zoom link will be sent out prior to the start of classes. There will be no class the Monday after Christmas 12/26.

Dr. Tomette has earned a PhD in Health Promotion. She has many years of experience teaching Health Education and Public Health at the high school, undergraduate, and graduate levels of academia, as well as in various community settings to students of all ages and diverse demographics.

Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program (AFEP) is a group exercise class for people with arthritis who want safe ways to stay active, reduce pain, and move more easily. Participants learn from a trained instructor on how to deal with challenges like pain that keep them from staying active. Participants will practice stretching, breathing, endurance, and balance activities tailored for their ability and skill level. AFEP can help control pain, boost energy and mood, and increase confidence about staying active and managing arthritis.

This class is part of the South Washington County Community Hybrid classes. Classes meet in person on a rotating basis at the following locations: The Legends of Cottage Grove - Mondays The Legends of Woodbury - Wednesdays Hillcrest Pointe - Friday

A Matter of Balance is an award-winning program designed for older adults to manage falls and increase activity levels. Two trained coaches guide participants through learning and activities that emphasize strategies to reduce fear of falling and increase activity levels among older adults. Participants show improved balance, flexibility and strength while viewing falls as controllable.

Tai Ji Quan: Moving for Better Balance (TJQMBB) is an evidence-based fall prevention program designed for older adults developed by Fuzhong Li, Ph.D., Senior Scientist at the Oregon Research Institute. TJQMBB represents a substantive enhancement of traditional Tai Ji Quan as it transforms martial arts movements into a therapeutic regimen aimed at improving postural stability, awareness and mindful control of body positioning, functional walking, movement symmetry and coordination, range of motion around the ankle and hip joints and lower - extremity muscle strength.

Dr. Tomette has earned a PhD in Health Promotion. She has many years of experience teaching Health Education and Public Health at the high school, undergraduate, and graduate levels of academia, as well as in various community settings to students of all ages and diverse demographics. She enjoys teaching both beginner and advanced Tai Ji Quan.

Social Connect is not an evidence-based program.
