Stay Active and Independent for Life (SAIL) is a strength, balance and fitness program for adults 65 and older. Performing exercises that improve strength, balance and fitness is the single most important activity adults can do to stay active and reduce their chances of falling. The entire curriculum of activities in the Stay Active and Independent for Life (SAIL) program can help improve strength and balance, if done regularly.

Stepping On is designed specifically for people who are: 1) at risk of falling, 2) have a fear of falling, or 3) who have fallen one or more times. Participants meet for two hours a week for seven weeks. Classes are facilitated by trained Leaders and provide a safe and positive learning experience. Classes are highly participative; mutual support and success build participants' confidence in their ability to manage their health behaviors, reduce their risk of falls, and maintain active and fulfilling lives.

Tai Ji Quan: Moving for Better Balance® (TJQMBB) is an evidence-based fall prevention program designed for older adults developed by Fuzhong Li, Ph.D., Senior Scientist at the Oregon Research Institute. TJQMBB represents a substantive enhancement of traditional Tai Ji Quan as it transforms martial arts movements into a therapeutic regimen aimed at improving postural stability, awareness and mindful control of body positioning, functional walking, movement symmetry and coordination, range of motion around the ankle and hip joints and lower - extremity muscle strength.

Powerful Tools for Caregivers® helps family and friends caring for older adults with long-term health conditions develop the skills and confidence to better care for themselves while caring for others. The weekly topics range from reducing your stress to communicating in challenging situation and mastering caregiving decisions.
Powerful Tools for Caregivers Class Leader Training
April 18 and April 20, from 9 am. to 5 p.m.
In person at Normandale Center for Healing and Wholeness
Cost: $425 (which includes the Powerful Tools for Caregivers licensing fee, Caregiver Helpbook, and 2 box lunches
Powerful Tools for Caregivers (PTC) is a small-group workshop for individuals who help a parent, spouse, partner, child, or friend who lives with a long-term health condition. PTC offers practical strategies and tools for caregivers to reduce stress, improve self-confidence, manage goals, solve problems, self-advocate, make tough decisions, and locate resources. Classes are highly participatory, mutual support helps to build participants’ confidence and improve caregiver health and wellbeing.
Lead training facilitators Jennifer Monroe, MA, MPH and Patti Hankes have been collectively teaching PTC in the community via the Center for Healing and Wholeness for over 15 years.
Research has found that people who complete a Powerful Tools for Caregivers workshop have:
Increased awareness and utilization of local supportive services
Increased confidence in coping with caregiver demands
Reduced feelings of guilt, anger, and depression
Improved self-care practices such as exercise, relaxation, and medical check-ups
What is needed to become a Powerful Tools For Caregivers Class Leader?
Pre-registration and payment received by April 10
Group facilitation experience and skills
A sponsoring organization
Experience working with family caregivers
A co-leader with whom to teach the 6-week caregiver class

What is the time commitment for Powerful Tools For Caregivers Class Leader Training?
The Class Leader training at the Center for Healing and Wholeness is two full days, plus travel time.
Within a year after training completion, PTC Class Leaders must teach two caregiver class series.

A Matter of Balance is an award-winning program designed for older adults to manage falls and increase activity levels. Two trained coaches guide participants through learning and activities that emphasize strategies to reduce fear of falling and increase activity levels among older adults. Participants show improved balance, flexibility and strength while viewing falls as controllable.

$600 for individuals not working with FCNN to lead workshops. $50 + manual cost of $100 for collaborative partners. $50 for faith community nurses and individuals leading workshops with FCNN.
