4/19/2023

Knowing how to manage stress is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle. Reducing stress can improve physical and mental well-being.

April is Stress Awareness Month

Risks associated with stress

  • Heart disease: Stress can increase heart rate and blood flow, causing cholesterol to be released in the bloodstream.
  • Depression: Chronic stress can be linked to depression and anxiety. In a survey done by WebMD, 80% of people with stress-related jobs were at risk of developing depression.
  • Obesity: When people are stressed, they look for "comfort food." These foods are usually high in calories and fat, which can lead to weight gain.
  • Diabetes: Stress can lead to unhealthy behaviors, such as excessive eating and drinking. This can lead to type 2 diabetes.
