A “Blue Zone” is a term for regions of the world where people tend to live longer and healthier lives. The five identified regions are: Okinawa, Japan; Sardinia, Italy; Nicoya, Costa Rica; Ikaria, Greece and Loma Linda, California. We can learn a lot from those who live in Blue Zones.

Try out their healthy habits:

  • Move naturally: They don’t rely on mechanical devices for house and yard work.
  • Purpose. They have a sense of purpose.
  • Down shift. They have routines that help them reduce stress, such as praying, meditating, taking naps, being grateful and being social.
  • 80% rule: They stop eating when their stomach is 80% full.
  • Plant slant: They eat more plants than meat.
  • Wine @ 5: They drink alcohol regularly and moderately with food and friends.
  • Belong: They belong to faith-based communities.
  • Loved ones first: They invest time and love in their family and relationships.
  • Right tribe: They are part of social circles that encourage healthy behaviors.
