A “Blue Zone” is a term for regions of the world where people tend to live longer and healthier lives. The five identified regions are: Okinawa, Japan; Sardinia, Italy; Nicoya, Costa Rica; Ikaria, Greece and Loma Linda, California. We can learn a lot from those who live in Blue Zones.
Try out their healthy habits:
- Move naturally: They don’t rely on mechanical devices for house and yard work.
- Purpose. They have a sense of purpose.
- Down shift. They have routines that help them reduce stress, such as praying, meditating, taking naps, being grateful and being social.
- 80% rule: They stop eating when their stomach is 80% full.
- Plant slant: They eat more plants than meat.
- Wine @ 5: They drink alcohol regularly and moderately with food and friends.
- Belong: They belong to faith-based communities.
