Her relatives commented on how cheerful she was towards the end - she played golf, became queen of the county fair at 104 and had many friends. Happiness Happens Month

August is here, and it's time to celebrate Happiness Happens Month! This special month is dedicated to spreading joy, recognizing moments of happiness and inspiring positive thinking. Whether you're finding joy in small moments or grand adventures, this month is all about acknowledging and celebrating happiness in our lives.

Why is happiness important for older adults?

Happiness plays a vital role in our overall well-being, and it's essential to cultivate it at every stage of life. For older adults, happiness contributes to improved mental and physical health, fostering a more vibrant and fulfilling lifestyle. Embracing happiness can lead to lower stress levels, better immune function and a stronger sense of purpose. Consider these activities to spark joy:

  1. Connect with Loved Ones: Schedule regular phone calls, video chats or in-person visits with family and friends. Sharing stories, laughter, and love is a surefire way to boost happiness.

  2. Engage in Hobbies: Rediscover your passion for hobbies such as gardening, knitting, painting or reading. Engaging in activities you love brings immense joy and satisfaction.

Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program

The Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program is for people with arthritis who want to learn safe ways to stay active, reduce pain and move more easily. This class is a community-based, low impact, recreational exercise program. You’ll:

  • Practice stretching, breathing, and balance
  • Control body pain
  • Learn techniques for boosting energy and mood
  • Learn ways to keep from falling when out in your community
  • Increase confidence about staying active and managing arthritis

August 23-October 18
Days: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays
Time: 1:45-2:45 p.m.
