August is National Eye Exam Month
- See your eye doctor. If you are over the age of 65, it is recommended to get your eyes checked every 1 or 2 years and more frequently if you are having problems.
- Protect your eyes. When you're outside, wear sunglasses, specifically those that block ultraviolet light, and a large hat that shades you.
- Keep your body healthy. Be physically active, choose smart foods to eat and maintain a healthy blood pressure. Learn more about how to stay healthy at our Diabetes Prevention Program here.
- Take a break from screens. Prevent eye strain by taking a break from looking at a computer screen. Consider the 20-20-20 rule: take a break every 20 minutes and look 20 feet away for 20 seconds.
